Students forSustainableEnterprise.

Students for Sustainable Enterprise (SSE) is a student-led team helping small businesses in Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, and the South Bay access California energy grants, incentives, and utility programs—from first assessment to final filing.

Climate funding should reach the businesses that keep a community running.

California already offers meaningful support for energy efficiency and carbon reduction. But for a café owner, salon, repair shop, or light-industrial operator, finding the right program can feel like a second job. SSE closes that gap.

We work where others cannot so small businesses are not left behind.

Volunteer capacity

Students can spend time on smaller projects that are difficult to serve profitably through a commercial consulting model.

Technical curiosity

Our team combines careful research, data analysis, and modern modeling tools to surface practical opportunities.

Owner-first delivery

We translate a complicated funding landscape into a short, understandable plan and help carry the paperwork through.

From a utility bill to a completed application.

What does Students for Sustainable Enterprise do?

SSE evaluates a small business’s energy and water use, identifies practical improvements, matches the business with relevant California grants, incentives, and utility programs, and supports the application process.

Where does SSE work?

SSE works with small businesses in Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Saratoga, and the wider South Bay, California.

How does SSE model energy savings?

SSE uses an AI ensemble that combines weather-normalized baselines, operating schedules, building systems, utility data, project costs, and physics guardrails to compare practical improvement scenarios.

How can a business or student get involved?

Business owners can request an assessment, and students can apply to join the team through the form on this page. SSE reviews each inquiry and follows up by email.
